Multinational car companies are gathering to start intelligent cooperation
Recently, according to foreign media reports, Toyota Motor, Honda Motor and Nissan Motor have reached an agreement to strengthen cooperation in automotive software development, and will also consider deeper cooperation in the field of autonomous driving in the future.
1. Grouping together for warmth is becoming a trend
This time, the cooperation between Toyota, Honda and Nissan, the "Japanese Big Three", is mainly focused on automotive software development, and plans to unify the standards of vehicle control systems, such as the opening and closing methods of doors and windows and the operation methods of wipers.
In fact, in May this year, many Japanese automakers began to plan matters related to intelligent cooperation. At that time, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan issued a draft strategy for the digital transformation of automobiles, focusing on the three major areas of software-defined vehicles (SDV), mobile services (autonomous driving operations, etc.), and data utilization, encouraging cooperation between domestic companies, concentrating superior resources and talents, accelerating development and reducing costs.
In addition to the grouping together among Japanese automakers, many multinational automakers such as Hyundai Motor, Volkswagen, and Ford are also exploring more diverse forms of cooperation.
2. Traditional multinational giants urgently need to "make up lessons" in terms of intelligence
When it comes to the intelligence of multinational car companies, Tesla is naturally indispensable. Not long ago, at the launch of Tesla's "WE ROBOT" new product, the Robotaxi driverless taxi service and two fully autonomous driving models - Cybercab and Robovan - were launched at once, demonstrating its strong intelligent capabilities.
However, compared with Tesla, General Motors, which also originated in the United States, has a particularly bumpy road on the road of autonomous driving. As early as 2016, GM acquired Cruise, an autonomous driving company, focusing on the research and development of autonomous driving technology. However, in 2023, a Cruise autonomous driving taxi collided with a pedestrian, dragged it and pressed it down.
3. Independent brands are "far ahead"
In the Chinese market, in terms of intelligent driving, from January to June this year, the penetration rate of L2 new passenger cars in China was 55.7%. More than 20 car companies or brands, including Xpeng Motors, Weilai Motors, Ideal Motors, and Zeekr Motors' auto brands, launched the city NOA high-level intelligent driving, claiming that the team of car companies that can be used nationwide is also growing.
4. Each takes advantage of its own strengths to jointly create a smart car ecosystem
For multinational car companies, cooperation is the best choice to narrow the gap. For independent brands, cooperation is also the best choice to expand their advantages. In addition, for the development of the entire automotive industry, the smart car ecosystem also requires the joint creation of Chinese and foreign car companies. The industry needs to strengthen resource sharing and co-construction, break down barriers between all parties, and share the prosperous smart car ecosystem.
